W. Norton Grubb's "The New Vocationalism: What It Is, What It Could Be

In W. Norton Grubb's essay " The New Vocationalism : What It Is, What It Could Be" discusses how high school should be geared more towards a college education and a successful career. I agree with Grubb's essay only because when I was attending high school the staff and teachers wanted you to feel like they were preparing you for the real world but in reality they were just trying to get you through the four years, while having fun. The reason being is because during the four years you are constantly hearing "go to college", even though you aren't being prepared for real life situations and proper study habits. So instead of starting at the top of your game once graduated, you are then thrown back to the bottom of the food chain. Meaning you have to start everything you learned in high school all over just to fulfill requirements for and AA degree. I decided to enroll in SFCC because financially it was a lot cheaper and closer to home. I plan to attend Eastern Washington University after completing my AA. While attending SFCC I am working on my AA in business and will eventually go to school to be a massage therapist or athletic massage therapist. I recently changed my major to business because I found that I will go a lot farther in my lifetime with a business degree because when I am done schooling for massage therapy I can open up my own business, and with massage therapy being a "trade education" I can compare with the fifth strand of new vocationalism.
