Personal Reflection

I have enjoyed meeting new people in the English class. It is sad that my writing adventure is over but I'm and really glad that it is. I have not reached the goals I have wanted to achieve because every time I thought I was doing good in the class and on my papers I got a nice punch in the stomach saying school is not easy. I love writing and love to speak my mind, but with the English 102 guidelines I found that my writing style was not loved. I have learned a little on what is expected on A papers but never once was lucky enough to get an A on my writing, but I feel that I can still grow and learn from this experience it will just take me a little more time to break my free style in writing. However I did not favor the peer critiquing only because I felt that the reader was attacking my paper and not looking for its full potential, but I did enjoy the class discussions even though I would shy away from sometimes asking one. The discussions were to help our minds grow in the sense that we would make amazing argument papers. Other than that I consider this class a huge learning experience and one that I can take to my other writing classes if I choose to pursue any. So thank you for giving me a chance and giving tips for good writing techniques. As for my career and educational goals I still plan on pursuing a general business degree and transfer to Eastern downtown for their business program and then plan to go into the trade of massage therapy and become and athletic massage therapist. So even though my writing has changed with the guidelines that were provided I am still going to go for my future goals. Thank you all again for a good semester.

Celiac Vs. Change in Character/ Thesis

Celiac is a disease that is becoming more common in today's America. Celiac or celiac sprue is the disease where you cannot consume any products with wheat in it, this is also know as a gluten- free diet. The disease can be deadly if you do not consume the proper foods, these proper foods consist of; soy, rice and potato products. With the disease being deadly anybody who is diagnosed with the disease must change their eating habits completely and even though their diet has changed so has their character. For some, the change is life changing to where they couldn't imagine their life without being gluten-free? You start to notice changes in your body and character such as; weight loss and fatigue. Other symptoms that occur from celiac is abdominal pains, bloating, and nausea. So why does your character change so drastic and why is the diet not like any other diet? Celiac is still being discovered for common cures and procedures on how to be aware of products you consume and how to cope with the changes in your life.

Celiac Vs. Change in Character

My topic Proposal is the desieas known as celiac. Celiac Sprue can be a deadly disease that you get from birth and develope symptoms overtime. The symptoms are painful because the pain sit in your digestive track allowing you to feel bloated, nauseas, fatigue, constipation, and even weight loss. Although weight loss may sound enticing, you will still end uop with all the other symptoms; like a present. Celiac has a specific diet that can help avoid the symptoms; this diet is known as the "Gluten Free" diet.
The reason I am interested in talking about the celiac or the gluten free diet is because when I was helping in a phhysical therapy program I was lucky to work with a little boy who was diagnosed with autism. He came into the program throwing tantrums; no focus what so ever and his skin pigment was orange almost like the color from one of those fake tans gone bad. The therapist Dan Conley, who was my teacher, had the little boys mother take him to a nutritionist, not because his health was bad he just wanted to see the amount of sugar intake the boy was recieving in a day. Come to find out the nutritionist decided to to put the boy on a gluten free diet. Every day he came to the program with certain snacks such as; corn tortillas, puffins' cereal, and yogurt. After a few weeks he was able to focus on one thing instead of ten things at a time, his cognitive thinking was finally kicking in for him. The funny thing is that after he was put on this diet his skin color went from the fake tan orange to a normale pigment color. So for my arugment; Does Celiac have an effect on your body and change your characteristics by changing your daily intake of starches and sugars? And does it have an effect on your skin color?

The Men We Carry In Our MInds

In Scott Russell Sanders essay " The Men We Carry In Our Minds" shows that women are perceived as a stay at home mom, a housewife, or even a trophy wife, and shows the men as the male bread winner and how the men in our lives or in our minds strive to be the best and to make sure that their family is financially stable. I disagree to an extent only because during the 1940's through the 1960's was a different timeline in the world for women because now woman have the equal opportunity to a career and to a steady income. Granted that some women still like to be a stay at home mom or a trophy wife, they still have the ability to fulfill their dreams for what they perceive in life and in their families. Ever since I turned 16 my parents told me I needed to get a job, I love that I can consider myself as independent. My parents are both hardworking and share everything, well mostly everything. Sanders describe the men as super hard working, when they are farmers, coal miners, and working on assembly lines, but he doesn't state anything about the women except that they are jealous of what the men in their lifetime have accomplished when the women couldn't even say they had an education. If my mom and I were to be stripped of all our opportunities life for us would be lost because we wouldn't know what to do with ourselves if my dad had to provide everything for our family.

W. Norton Grubb's "The New Vocationalism: What It Is, What It Could Be

In W. Norton Grubb's essay " The New Vocationalism : What It Is, What It Could Be" discusses how high school should be geared more towards a college education and a successful career. I agree with Grubb's essay only because when I was attending high school the staff and teachers wanted you to feel like they were preparing you for the real world but in reality they were just trying to get you through the four years, while having fun. The reason being is because during the four years you are constantly hearing "go to college", even though you aren't being prepared for real life situations and proper study habits. So instead of starting at the top of your game once graduated, you are then thrown back to the bottom of the food chain. Meaning you have to start everything you learned in high school all over just to fulfill requirements for and AA degree. I decided to enroll in SFCC because financially it was a lot cheaper and closer to home. I plan to attend Eastern Washington University after completing my AA. While attending SFCC I am working on my AA in business and will eventually go to school to be a massage therapist or athletic massage therapist. I recently changed my major to business because I found that I will go a lot farther in my lifetime with a business degree because when I am done schooling for massage therapy I can open up my own business, and with massage therapy being a "trade education" I can compare with the fifth strand of new vocationalism.
