Celiac Vs. Change in Character/ Thesis

Celiac is a disease that is becoming more common in today's America. Celiac or celiac sprue is the disease where you cannot consume any products with wheat in it, this is also know as a gluten- free diet. The disease can be deadly if you do not consume the proper foods, these proper foods consist of; soy, rice and potato products. With the disease being deadly anybody who is diagnosed with the disease must change their eating habits completely and even though their diet has changed so has their character. For some, the change is life changing to where they couldn't imagine their life without being gluten-free? You start to notice changes in your body and character such as; weight loss and fatigue. Other symptoms that occur from celiac is abdominal pains, bloating, and nausea. So why does your character change so drastic and why is the diet not like any other diet? Celiac is still being discovered for common cures and procedures on how to be aware of products you consume and how to cope with the changes in your life.

  1. i'm not sure what you are going to try to argue. From reading your thesis it just seems like you might just be explaing the effects and how the desease is on the rise. Perhaps i missed it?

what exactly do you plan to argue in your paper?

  2. how recent was this discovered? how fast can this disease kill if you are diagnosed with it?

  3. Jeremy,
The disease has been going on for year's but recently has grown in mass amounts. One in 133 people get celiac diease, Im not sure on how fast the disease will kill you but by consuming small amounts of wheat you begin to shut down your digestive track.

  4. Brent,
The disease changes peoples characters. Like how you act now is different once diagnosed with celiac. Im going to argue on why the celiac diet is different from other diets. For instance; celiac has a major affect on kids who are autistic. So I am going to argue about the affects the diet has on autism compared to if a person who is not diagnosed with celiac but wants to try this diet. I will go back and rethink my thesis though. Thank you :)

  6. This is a great topic that I myself have researched. It's shocking how many people I see each week that rely on gluten-free products. In your paper, have you discussed how difficult or easy it is for consumers to shop for groceries? Did you mentioned anything about gluten-free sections offered in the grocery stores due to the growth of Celiac Disease? I look forward to seeing what your findings are.

  7. Lyra,
I haven't really talked about the grocery shopping part of the celiac disease, I did talk about certain food you cannot eat and what may happen. I will have to go back and put that in their because that is a big part of being gluten-free and it can be a real pain or somewhat fun. Thanks :)

  8. Cam,
Since how I am writing about the character changes one goes through when diagnosed with celiac I am also going to talk about how the disease affects people who have autism especially children.
My opposition is how sugar affects autism compared to carbs. Because kids who are autistic tend to lose focus. But once on a no carb diet they are able to calmly focus on one thing at a time.

  9. Cam,
Sorry I meant my opposition is how carbs affect children who are autistic compaed to sugar.

  10. your response to Brent makes perfect sense, but your original thesis is really unclear - you should possibly consider revising it. For example, you may want to include something about autism in your thesis. Also, are you going to talk about why this disease is more prelivant today?

  11. Is there an argument in your thesis? You could argue that a gluten-free diet is a difficult one, and that there should be more foods out there at can satisfy it.

  12. Megan,
Sorry Im just now writing back, But thank you. And yeah I definietly need to restate my thesis and I will put in the autisc point of view and how it is more prelivant today. Thanks :)

  13. Angie,
after reading my thesis my argument is not in there, sorry. But the disease does have a lot of accomidations than you would think. In the natural food section of the grocery store there are tons of products that have gluten free ingredients, you just have to be willing to read the labels. But I will consider putting some of what you said into my final. Sorry Im just now responding to your comment. Thank you :)
